Scott Whitby, 2020

Just clear the spot

Then string a line

And dig the holes

For a fence so fine!

Was it that easy?

Or could it have been

Alot more work

Than was seen?

Clearing a spot

Trees and brush

No good to hurry

No gain to rush

And string a line?

Keep it straight!

A little Crooked

Start over and do it right

There's alot of dirt in a hole

But they've got to be made

Don't know 'til you dig one

They're never in the shade

What about corners?

And changes in direction?

A straight line is one thing

But there's more to perfection

Set the posts

After you carry them there

Tamp the dirt

Then blisters you bear

Pull the wire

Perfectly tight

Hammer it down

With sweat and your might

But don't forget gates

They've got to swing free

Else you've fenced in

A pasture absentee

If it's done right

With plenty of thought

The cows will stay put

Forever caught

But get in a hurry

Just holler and shout

You wasted your time

The cows will get out
