God Just Winked

Scott Whitby, 2023

Drink some whisky

Play the guitar

And write a song

Smoke a cigar

Wonder about tomorrow

When the song's all wrong

And yesterday's gone

After a night too long

Smell the smoke

Feed the fire

Talk to God

Say a little prayer

Mourning doves

Sit and coo

Do they worry

About what to do?

Sun sets red

Geese take flight

They are honking

With all their might

Drink more whisky

While the fire dies

Embers popping

New stars in the sky

Wonder about tomorrow

Can I fix this song?

If yesterday's gone

And the night's too long

The geese are resting

The dove is quiet

God, You listened

Our good night

The cigar died

Embers fade

God just winked

Something He made
