My Setting Sun

Scott Whitby, 2024

My setting sun screamed clouds at me

She tried to make me see all day

I didn't care...and she knew

(then she thought what she should say)

She said:

I rose this morning, warm and light

Same as yesterday and tomorrow

You took my gift for granted

You didn't care about my sorrow

I carried on

I made you warm

I lit your way

Literally made your day

Soon it was time for the day to end

After all the love I shed

You didn't care that all my effort

Made the sky blue

                           and purple

                           and red

Sunsets and sunrises

Eclipses and flares

You stare at me, blinded

Do you care?

Then you settle in

As I fall to the ground

Behind the trees

Without a sound

(but)

Now I scream my clouds at you

This is what I want to say

I'll do it again tomorrow for you...

I'll light your way!

I'll make your day!
