She said 'what are you thinking about'

I said nothing...it wasn't true

Lost in days gone by

And the pleasures of my youth

I was thinking about days gone by

How I was growing old

And how she looked just the same

Her eyes and skin still glowed

She said what are you thinking now

I knew she didn't care

I said nothing just like before

I had no thoughts to spare

I was thinking about my life

And all I had not done

How I failed at what I meant to be

I could list them one by one

One more time she asked again

This time she was intent

I said I'm thinking about you

How you were Heaven sent

Now she seems satisfied

All my thoughts torn open

I wonder what she was thinking

And can her thoughts be stolen

I asked her what she was thinking

Said it was about me

How tall and dark and handsome

How I made her free

She thought of days gone by

How I was growing old

She was thinking she felt young

How I was fool's gold

I asked again what's in your mind

You can tell me true

She said what a blessing

The day that I found you

I knew the truth and she did too

I could read her mind

She knew my faults one by one

They weren't hard to find

She promised she would love me

Like family and all her friends

I promised I would too

And I do until the end
